The Primary Battle

I hope you got to see Bj Lewis' story today about the ongoing battle between Democrats and Republicans who are wrangling about who will get to use the fire station on East Sherman Drive as a polling site on March 2. The Republicans say they have an exclusive contract to use that station, and there would not be room for the Democrats, too.
The Democrats say there would be room and that they should be allowed to use the fire station, as well.
The city's legal office is now trying to sort out the details.

Forum tonight

If you want to hear all the Republican candidates in contested races, then consider attending tonight's forum at the Denton County Courthouse on the Square. The Denton Republican Women's Club is sponsoring it at 6:30 p.m. A panel will collect questions from the audience and ask the ones they can.

Politics is in the air

With the March 2 primary just over a month away, the political scene is changing almost daily, So, we're starting this blog in order to help you keep up with those changing winds.
For starters, here are a few important dates that you should circle on your political calendar.
IMPORTANT: Monday is the last day to register to vote if you want to be eligible for the March 2 primary. That leaves three business days after today.
The other important dates are Feb. 16 (first day of early voting), Feb. 26 (last day of early voting) and of course, March 2 (the primary election day)
Mixed in between the partisan politics, some stories will emerge in the nonpartisan arena. May 8 is the election day for municipal and school district races, as well as some other taxing districts. Candidates can legally begin filing for those seats on Feb. 6. Now, I realize that's a Saturday, so effectively the first people probably won't be able to file until Feb. 8.
We'll use this blog to report news on that front, as well.
