Barnwell said he's looking for work and wouldn't have the large amount of time to volunteer in order to do a good job.

Six people are running for mayor, including Tim Barnwell, Rich Garon, Bentley Parker, Brian Roberson, Dorothy Walker, and Peter Wright.

Eleven people are running for five spots on the town council, including Eddie Army, Kathi Brown, Bruce W. Dudley, Tawny N. Laney, Ernie Law, Mark McCullough, Crystal Miller, Clint Shipp, Nate Tandberg, Mike Thompson, and Ken Winzen Sr.

I plan to write a story about the race sometime next week. The election will be Saturday, June 19.

The only new face this year is James King, an insurance agent who defeated four other candidates to take the at-large Place 6 seat Joe Mulroy is leaving because of term limits. Mayor Mark Burroughs (Place 7) and Mayor Pro Tem Pete Kamp (Place 5) each overcame an opponent to win re-election.

A reception will precede the meeting at 5:30. Both events are at City Hall, 215 E. McKinney St.
