Weekend Weather Not Looking Too Bad - Also Some Area Snowfall Totals...
There are a few echoes showing up on the radar this afternoon. They are very light at this time and for the most part may not be making it to the ground. A couple of things are contributing to their formation. There is a cold front that has sagged into the area from the north which can give some atmospheric lift. Also there is a small pocket of very cold air in the upper atmosphere that is moving through central Texas. Since afternoon temperatures have warmed nicely today it makes for a unique situation. When colder air is above warmer air it causes the air at the surface to begin moving upward. As that happens, cumulus clouds form and if the updrafts in them are strong enough they can become tiny thunderstorms. The odds of getting one right over you are pretty slim. However, if you’re so “lucky” you could see a quick sleet/snow shower with some lightning involved. Any cloud to ground lightning, no matter how small the storm, is very dangerous. Just be aware of the weather as you are out and about. The threat will pass as we begin to cool back down this evening and the pocket of cold air moves away from the area.
With mostly clear skies and light northerly winds we will see temperatures drop into the mid 20s overnight. If you’ve put any tender vegetation out or moved some house plants out already they will need to be protected.
The rest of the weekend looks nice with highs in the mid 60s and low temperatures in the low to mid 40s.
Another system may affect our area early next week, but details for that need to be ironed out.

Enjoy your weekend, but be careful once again on area streets where snow has melted and there is runoff as that will freeze again overnight into the morning. After tomorrow most, if not all the snow should melt off.
