Weather causes schools to close early

The wintry mix that we are experiencing in the North Texas area has caused school districts to announce early closings for the afternoon.
Denton Independent School District and Northwest ISD are closing school early at 1:30 p.m. Liberty Christian School in Argyle closed at Noon. Pilot Point ended classes at 1:30 and the buses are running at 1:45.
Krum ISD is not closing early and buses will run at normal time, but officials are encouraging parents to come pick up their children early. They will not be counted absent if they do.
The University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University is closing at 2 p.m. while North Central Texas College is closing at 3:30 p.m.
TWU will continue to monitor the weather situation for the Denton and Dallas campuses. Currently, the university is scheduled to open Friday, March 7 as usual.

About 11 a.m., a storm moved through the Dallas-Fort Worth area and began dumping sleet onto the area, but it quickly turned to snow, said Dan Shoemaker, a National Weather Service meteorologist.
The snow was expected to continue to pick up, dumping three to five inches on the area before ending around midnight Friday. The winter storm advisory is expected to be in place until 6 a.m. Friday.
With Spring right around the corner, snow might have caught a few residents off guard, but this isn’t the first time that a winter flurry has come so late in the season.
The Dallas-Fort Worth Airport received six inches on March 13, 1924 and 3.9 inches on March 7, 1947. The latest snowfall came on April 14, 1928 when a trace fell at the airport.
As for snowfall on March 6, in 1931 and 1967 snow fell, but it wasn’t like Thursday’s snowfall.
“We have set a record or we certainly will today,” Shoemaker said.
The best thing to do might be nothing at all.
“Drive slow and stay home would be the best thing to do,” Shoemaker said.
