Very Windy and Warm Today - but the change is still on the way!

I’ve been doing a lot of data analysis from last night and this morning. It looks as if the “dreaded” event mentioned yesterday may turn into a welcome event. The temperatures aloft with this system are not as cold as previously forecasted. Thus when precipitation forms (and believe me it will) it will fall through air that is above the freezing mark and drag the same temperature profile down to ground-level with it. Now places just to our west will see a bit of colder air aloft and at the surface and will continue be threatened with some sleet and freezing rain.

I think for the Denton area eastward we should see cold rain and thunderstorms, some of which will be heavy at times. This is why I say that this may become a welcome event for the area as we are trying to slip back into drought conditions and could really use a good soaking rain.

So here is what I come up with for the Denton area; Today - partly cloudy, very windy and warm with temperatures making it into the lower 70s. Winds are going to be very strong today with gusts around 35mph. Counties just to our west are under a Red Flag Warning due to the conditions favorable for grass fires. There is a Wind Advisory in place for Denton today for the expected gusty winds. Tonight – a cold front moves into the area and begins to trigger some rain and starts dropping the temperatures. We will see lows tonight dropping into the mid 30s. Friday looks to be a cold wet day with temperatures not making it out of the mid to upper 30s and rain showers continuing. Friday night and Saturday the rain machine swings into full gear. There could be some flooding issues in parts of the area, but I expect those to be more to our southeast. Temperatures will range from the mid 30s Friday night into the mid 40s on Saturday. Sunday the storm system will begin to exit the area and the rains will be tapering off.
