Happy New Year! Get ready for another bout of "rollercoaster weather" for the area...

Another hard freeze is in store tonight for the Denton area.

Elevated fire weather danger will continue this afternoon due to wind, very low humidity and plenty of dead/cured vegetation to burn. A red flag warning will probably be hoisted later today for the area. Even if you aren’t in a “burn ban” county I would delay any outdoor burning for the next couple of days. Please be safe!

After a chilly start to the New Year, we will see temperatures on a warming trend through the weekend. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some 70 degree highs around the area on Saturday and Sunday.

A very strong storm system is approaching the west coast and I’m sure we’ll hear in the news about some flooding, mudslides and wind-related power outages in southern California in the next couple of days. The reason I bring this up is to let you know that the same system (although not as strong by then) will be affecting our area next week. I’ll be keeping my eye on it for you and keep you informed as to its possible impact on our local weather.

I am going to put some year-end 2007 weather stats together for Denton, and will get that posted as soon as I compile the data.

Happy New Year everyone - have a Great 2008.
