Denton, Dallas, Fort Worth getting rain, little ice

Light rain was falling across much of Dallas-Fort Worth early Friday and above-freezing temperatures were keeping the roads wet but not icy.

Tarrant and Denton counties remained under a freezing rain advisory that was issued Thursday through noon Friday, but Dallas and Collin counties were removed. The advisory means that once the rain hits the ground or other objects it may freeze and cause travel disruptions.

Significant icing was not anticipated.

“We’re often right on the borderline of freezing, so it was a little too close for comfort for us not to have an advisory,” National Weather Service meteorologist Dan Huckaby said. “We certainly want to give people a heads-up of the potential” for travel dangers."

Nick Hampshire, another meteorologist, said the weather service would determine around 10 a.m. whether to lift the advisory early. But as of 8:15 a.m., the temperature of the falling rain was well above 32 degrees, so it was not freezing, he said.
