Dangerous wind and fire conditions are on tap today...
Well the clouds never went away yesterday, but they be blown out of here this afternoon. The Denton area is under a Wind Advisory which will probably be upped to a High Wind Warning later today. We also are under a Red Flag Warning for a critical fire danger that is developing behind a cold front poised to move through the area. There is also Fire Weather Watch for Wednesday.
For the most part the temperatures in the area now will be our highs for the day. A cold front will move through the area later this morning and begin to drop temperatures for the rest of the day. It will also bring with it some extremely high winds. Winds could easily gust to near 50mph this afternoon. Winds of this magnitude can cause damage or injury from flying debris. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some west Texas dust blowing into the area too. I've already seen reports of blowing dust and wind gusts to 52mph in the southern Texas panhandle.
This wind and the extremely dry air filtering into the region will bring the conditions for Critical Fire Danger to our area.
Please be extremely careful today folks. I'll post updates as needed.
