Hot humid and breezy... Yuck!
A strong high pressure system in Mexico along with an area of low pressure moving westward into the eastern Gulf of Mexico is making this a very difficult forecast. These items are confusing computer weather models and weather forecasters alike. I noticed that most of the local forecasters have jumped on the band wagon with two of the computer models which don't bring us the fall weather we have been looking forward to this weekend. Well, I'm not jumping on that wagon just yet. I hate flip-flopping the forecast on you. For now I'm sticking with my original thoughts about this weekend unless I get more data that makes me believe otherwise.
Of more immediate concern is the weak cool front that should move into the Red River valley overnight. This front will serve to ignite some showers and thunderstorms as it moves our way. If the front can get all the way through the area, then tomorrow may be a pleasant but short lived reprieve from this stifling heat and humidity. That is a "big" if though!
As this afternoon's temperature makes it above 91 degrees we will begin to see some isolated thunderstorms bubble up in the area. Believe me it won't be hard to make it well above 91 degrees today! Look for afternoon heat indexes to be in the low 100s. It will be breezy and that will help a bit. I can't say it enough though, if you're going to be outside this afternoon please drink plenty of water.
Stay cool and have a great Tuesday.
