Humberto Suprise!

Well it went from a blob of clouds yesterday morning to a category 1 (74-95mph) hurricane in less than 24 hours. Humberto made landfall just east of High Island Texas around 2am with winds of 85mph . He is now moving into Louisiana with some very heavy flooding rainfall. The last hurricane to make landfall on the Texas coast was Rita back in 2005.

Our forecast will continue as is while Humberto moves off to the east and we are left in an area of sinking air. This will serve to make today a bit warmer than yesterday. Far east Texas could see some wrap around rains, but after reviewing radar and satellite loops this morning I’m not seeing much in the way of moisture being slung back to the northwest of the storm so those chances are low.

A weak cold front will move into our area over the weekend, but no rain is expected. It will however usher in some drier air Saturday night. Our high temperatures will be around 90 degrees for the next several days along with nighttime lows in the mid 60s.

Have a great Thursday!
