Early morning weather surprise--or rude awakening...

A fast moving upper level disturbance interacted with the dying front in the area to produce a pretty nasty storm early this morning. Many of you in the northern sections of Denton County were probably woken up by some loud thunder around 5am as the storm skirted just north of the city of Denton. Winds at the Denton airport gusted to 30mph as the storms moved by. Of course now we are back to warm and humid weather with not even a blip on the radar.

With the frontal system still in the area, abundant moisture and daytime heating I can't rule out scattered storms again this afternoon. Yesterday most of the activity was to our east and south. That may be the case again today as the main "leftovers" of the front are just south of Denton County.

Some drier air is trying to filter into the region from the northeast, but until I see a better push I can't say that we will see relief as soon as expected. It would be a nice addition to the weekend to at least have some cooler nights due to lower humidity. We will have to wait and see if the drier air does indeed back its way from the northeast into the area tomorrow.

Otherwise the forecast is staying pretty much the same with partly cloudy skies, humid conditions and afternoon highs making it to around 90 degrees and nighttime lows dropping into the 60s.

The first full week of Fall sure doesn’t feel like it!

Here is a quick map I made this morning just to give you an idea of the current weather synopsis and to highlight the areas that received severe weather this morning:
