Heating up, again...Dean down to 1

We are 1 month and 1 day away from Fall. Summer is going by fast and the days continue to get shorter now. However the remainder of the week and weekend will definitely feel like summer. Temperatures will flirt with the 100 degree mark and heat indices will be as high as 104 in some portions of the area. The wind has helped keep it feeling a bit cooler, but they will be dying down over the coming days. So remember to drink lots of water during outdoor activities.

Here are climatological tidbits for Denton. So far this month we have had 4 days over 100 degrees, there have been 4 days with at least a trace of rainfall, and we have experienced 4 days that thunder has been reported at the Denton airport. We are 1.39” below normal in rainfall for the month of August and the temperature has been 2.1 degrees above average for the area. Then next full moon will occur on the 28th and it will be experiencing a total eclipse…more on that later.

Hurricane Dean is at category 1 status and about to make his final landfall in Mexico. The main concern from Dean now will be the torrential rains, flooding and possible mudslides in central Mexico. The area of disturbed weather I mentioned yesterday east of the Bahamas, looks less impressive today and there aren’t any other areas of interest for now. But don’t forget we are in the middle of hurricane season.
